Sunday Summary: 18 October 2015

It was an interesting week for reading. I started out at my sister's house in Orlando and eventually found my way home on Friday evening, just in time to join with over 2000 other readers in Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon. Reading all of Saturday (well starting at 7am!) helped to bring my weekly average up just a little bit. I read a total of 472 pages in the 24 hours of the read-a-thon, reading one book from beginning to end and finishing half of another. AND, I have now read 155 books toward my goal of 200. That's one more book than I read in 2014.

Where I've been reading

Spent another week away from home. Mid-day on Sunday, I left my sister's house and drove to Jacksonville, Florida. I had meetings with customers on Monday and Wednesday, working from my hotel room on Tuesday. On Thursday, I flew to Birmingham (Alabama, not England) by way of Charlotte, North Carolina, and met with a customer on Friday before flying home to Texas.

What I've been reading: Completed this week

I really enjoyed the books that I completed this week. In particular, I finished listening to Fire with Fire by Charles E. Gannon, which had been in progress since the beginning of August. It was a free book from Amazon with the Audible book costing under $2.00. I enjoyed it very much and was thrilled to discover that it's the first in a series. I've added the next book to my Wishlist.

The rest of the books that I read were all borrowed from the library—two of the In Death mysteries starring Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke, and a delightful paranormal fantasy that is first in a new series.

What I've been reading: In progress

There's one book that's been “in progress” for weeks and weeks that I plan to finish this week, no matter what. I started reading Mutant's Legacy in mid-August and left it half-read. I'm going to complete it this week so I don't feel it nagging at me any more. I'm also reading The Door in the Hedge, and Other Stories by Robin McKinley—I'm about ½ way through the book. And then there's The Aeronaut's Windlass that I've barely started at all, but I'm eager to plunge into.

October Blog-Ahead

With the month half over, I'm embarrassed to admit that I have no scheduled posts. YET. I have several drafts that I need to buckle down and finish. And, I just figured out one way to complete the 10 advance posts—I'm signing up for Sci-Fi Month. Sci-Fi Month is a month-long blog event created to celebrate everything amazing about science fiction. Since Sci-Fi Month takes place in November, I can get some posts written and scheduled and kill two birds with one post.

This Week on the Blog

All my posts this week were about Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon. I didn't get any new books, so there was no Stacking the Shelves post this week.

  1. It's Dewey Time Again
  2. Dewey Begins
  3. Dewey So Far
  4. Another Dewey Update
  5. Dewey: The Half-Way Mark
  6. Dewey's Read-a-Thon: Entering the Home Stretch
  7. Dewey's: After the Nap
  8. Dewey's: Wrapping It All Up

I'm pleased to be linking up with The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on the blog, showcase books and things received. Share news about what is coming up on the blog for the week ahead.

    1. I really enjoyed Owl and the Japanese Circus and The Aeronaut's Windlass is shaping up well.

I need a vacation to Florida instead of a business trip! Heading to St. Louis this week and though it's also business, I should have a very good week.

  2. Congrats on 155 books! We went to see Jim Butcher when he came here a few weeks ago the day that Aeronaut came out, and pretty much only talked about Dresden lol! I do need to read his other fantasy series, and catch up on Dresden, and start this new one! Glad you got in on another Dewey's, and already ready for April! :D

    1. I saw your photo -- that's one reason I rushed to borrow The Aeronaut's Windlass as soon as possible. Not ready for April, but thinking about it.

  3. You are either a scheduler or not, I think I will fall in to the former!! You still have a while to go to the end of the month, you have lots of time!

    Have a great week!

    1. I aspire to be a scheduler. I usually have my Stacking the Shelves and Sunday Summary posts written in advance and scheduled. If I participate in a blog tour or cover reveal, I usually get those posts written in advance and scheduled. But most of my blog is based on what I've read recently, so it's hard to schedule that.

  4. I really wanted to do Blog Ahead but I think I'm actually all talk and no action lol. I never manage to schedule more than a day or two in advance. Good luck with it. Congrats on your readathon efforts, I haven't done a Dewey's readathon for a couple of years but it was so much fun, would love to do it again.

    1. Ah, me too. I actually got 4 posts written and 3 of them are now scheduled for November. The 4th will have to be completed the first week of November and then can be scheduled for later in the month.

I like Dewey's, but couldn't manage it more than twice a year. I like the week-long read-a-thons which have less "frenzy" but allow for a lot of socialization.

  5. Well done on your reading for the year and don't worry too much about Blog Ahead - you've still got a week or two! :-)

Glad you're still enjoying the JD Robbs. It's one of my 'go-to' series!

    1. Hey -- thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I'm on pace to complete 200 books this year, but I cannot slack off at all! I will not pick 200 as my goal next year.
