Arghhh! I need to spend more time reading, or I need to pick shorter books, or both. I'm still behind schedule to meet my goal of 200 books by the end of the year. With nine more weeks left in the year and 42 books to read, I'm going to need to average close to 5 books per week to meet my goal.
Yes, I picked a goal that I knew was going to make me push, but I also expected to be reading a lot more middle-grade books than I have so far. Guess I need to take a look at my TBR stack and line up some of those YA and MG books, moving them to the top of the list.
However, when it comes to the Blog Ahead Challenge, I've finally made some progress.
Where I've been reading
After a delightful weekend at home in Texas, I traveled to St. Louis on Monday morning. Spent an uneventful week there—longish days, but no crises. The trip home on Thursday night made up for it, though. Due to stormy weather in Dallas, my flight was diverted to Shreveport where we sat on the ground for almost three hours before we could take off to complete our trip to Dallas. It wouldn't have been so bad except that there was no airflow within the plane. I usually get quite chilled during a flight, but that wasn't the case at all this time! Everyone was hot and cranky by the time we landed in Dallas at 1:15, four hours later than scheduled.
What I've been reading: Completed this week
It took most of the week and I enjoyed every minute of reading The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher. It's the first of a series which Butcher says will be 3 or 6 or 9 books long, depending on contracts. Right now, he's got a contract for three books, and if they sell well, he hopes the publisher will pick up more. I'm voting for more. I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. It's not perfect, but it was a very good book and I'm eager for the next episode.
I'm also proud to announce that I finally returned to Mutant Legacy by Karen Haber. It's the last of her Fire in Winter series which I started reading in August and then set aside as I read other books. But every time I looked at the list of books I've read this year, there it was sitting at the top as Currently Reading. I have so many books that I want to read and with SciFi Month coming up, I wanted to clear the decks.

What I've been reading: In progress
I'm reading two books that will help me meet my goal for Finishing the Series Challenge. The Wedding Quilt is number 18 of 20 in Jennifer Chiaverini's Elm Creek Quilts series and The Heretic's Apprentice is the 16th of 20 in the Brother Cadfael Mystery series by Ellis Peters. Both of these are library books; one electronic and one in hardback. I am definitely enjoying both of these series and will a little bit sad at the end of the year to know that there won't be any more to read. My one consolation is that there are so many other series that I love and can delve into in 2016.
I'm also starting a new series set in the same world as one I previously read. Jeff Wheeler has added three more books to his Muirwood saga. The Banished of Muirwood is the first in his Covenant of Muirwood trilogy. I received a copy for review from NetGalley and I'm looking forward to reviewing the rest of the trilogy in the next couple of months.

October Blog-Ahead
I'm finally making progress. Three posts have been completed and scheduled, and I have one more drafted and scheduled. I cannot finish it until November 3, but it's mostly written. I've planned four more posts, so I think I might make my modest goal of 10 posts by the end of October.
This Week on the Blog
Yeah, I got three posts written and scheduled for November, but I didn't post anything this week other than a Stacking the Shelves. I had good intentions, but work got in the way. My schedule for this coming week is looking a little bit lighter, so I have plans to post a couple of reviews as well as to finish up the Blog-Ahead posts. Wish me luck!
