Stacking the Shelves (32)

Since we've been away from home all week, the only new books (well, that I know of) are those few eBooks that I've been able to get online. I love traveling with my Kindle because I can buy whatever books I want, whenever and wherever I happen to be. Oh yes, it was also week 1 at SYNC Audiobooks—the program that offers free weekly downloads of audiobooks throughout the summer. They pair one young-adult book with a classic each week. The books are only available for 7 days, so I have to be on my toes to make sure that I remember to download each week.

Purchased (gift card):

Book Cover: Alienated by Melissa Landers Doesn't this book description just grab you? “Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them. Handpicked to host the first-ever L'eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she'll have inside information about the mysterious L'eihrs that every journalist would kill for.”

I'm looking forward to enjoying Alienated—and it's the first of a series. More books to enjoy.

Book Cover: Levithan Wakes by James S Corey Since the SyFy Channel announced that they're turning the Expanse books into a TV series, I decided that I wanted to read the books beforehand. Catching a sale, I snapped up an eBook of Leviathan Wakes. The blurb sounds good: the solar system has been mostly settled and now the residents of the outer planets are revolting against control from the Earth government. There's a mysterious derelict ship found in the asteroid belt—one which may hold a secret that will change the fate of the universe.

Borrowed:

Book Cover: A Nomadic Witch by Debora Geary I'm continuing to read through the Modern Witch series by Debora Geary—getting one book each month through the Kindle Lending Library, a benefit of the Amazon Prime membership. Just like borrowing books from the public library, I return the book when I've finished reading it. Unlike the public library, I can only borrow one book each calendar month.

In A Nomadic Witch grumpy old Marcus finds himself responsible for a baby left on his doorstep. Not just any baby, but one with the magical power for astral travel. Many years ago, Marcus's twin brother was lost at age five when he never returned to his body. Now, as he and the rest of Witch Central band together to care for this little girl, they may actually discover the power to protect all of those with the ability for astral travel.

Freebies:

Book Cover: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl The YA title for the first week of free audiobook downloads at SYNC was Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Lena Duchannes moves into a spooky and mysterious plantation. Ethan Wate has been dreaming of a beautiful girl he has never met. He's drawn to Lena, determined to discover the connection between them. This recording comes from Hachette Audio.

Book Cover: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier Paired with Beautiful Creatures is the classic gothic suspense Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Set in a spooky and mysterious mansion, the narrator—the unnamed new bride of Maxim de Winter—is haunted by his dead wife, Rebecca. This book is also from Hachette Audio and is read by British actress Anna Massey.

How about you? Any new books? You're invited to tell us all about it by joining the fun at Stacking the Shelves. According to the reviewers at Tynga's Reviews who host the meme:

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

    1. Awesome indeed. I'm really excited about the free audio books from SYNC this week. (Heck, I'm excited about the entire catalog throughout the summer.) I plan to enjoy each and every one of these books.

Thanks from stopping by my blog and posting a comment.

    1. Krystianna, Alienated really called to me. I have a couple of ARCs that I need to read and get the reviews written, and the library just sent an e-mail saying that an InterLibrary Loan I had asked for has arrived. So, those have deadlines and *then* I can get busy reading another "for fun" title.

    1. The Kindle version of Alienated is only $0.99 in the USA. And, there's a novella following it, Until Midnight, that is free. The price and high recommendations convinced me to buy now.
