As haunted memories resurface, old discoveries and new realities conspire to shatter her world forever.

Torn in one direction by her unique connection to childhood sweetheart Zane, and pulled in the other by a relentless passion for her fiery fiancé Cal, she must make the hardest decision of all. While embarking on a road to self-discovery, her psychic gift evolves and the full extent of her powerful ability is revealed.

Then fate lands another savage blow and she faces the most horrific choice of all. Forced into striking a deal with the enemy, she must make the ultimate personal sacrifice or risk everything she holds dear.

When destiny finally rears its head, what will the future hold?

My Thoughts

At last I can post a review of Destiny Rising. When the book arrived, I was so excited to receive it and to be part of the roll-out, including the cover reveal (isn't it luscious?) and this blog tour. I discovered Siobhan Davis and her True Calling trilogy just in time to read and review the first book, True Calling. I've enjoyed every volume in this series and heartily recommend it to those who enjoy Young Adult science fiction with a dystopian and coming-of-age theme. If you'd like, you can read my reviews of True Calling and Beyond Reach.

I probably don't need to repeat the description—you can just scroll back up a little bit to read what Destiny Rising is all about. As in the earlier episodes, both of the story arcs—the political situation between the rebels of Clementia and the governments of Novo and Earth as well as the romantic triangle between Ari, Zane, and Cal—were well developed. I like the way that the characters have been presented with their own personalities, faults, and strengths.

I'm not the typical audience for the True Calling trilogy. To begin with, I'm a grandmother, not a young adult. And so, I probably didn't have the same emotional response to the love triangle between Ari, Zane, and Cal. And I didn't get all caught up in Ari's anguish as she tries to resolve her relationships once and for all. (It sort of brings to mind the “Team Edward/Team Jacob” debate from Twilight.)

However, I'm a very big fan of science fiction and enjoy most young adult literature, so I heartily enjoyed reading the all the True Calling books. Destiny Rising provides a thoroughly satisfactory conclusion to the series. Once again, I'm recommending that if you haven't started reading this series, do it now. See the links below.

Thanks to Siobhan Davis for an advanced reader's copy and to Lola of Lola's Blog Tours for introducing me to Ms. Davis' books and arranging this blog tour. If you'd like to see what other readers have thought about Destiny Rising, follow the links in the tour schedule.
