Stacking the Shelves (45)

I didn't have a Stacking the Shelves post last week because I managed to go for seven days without acquiring any new books. But it couldn't last. I have two new library books in hand and although I'm trying very hard to avoid getting more books at NetGalley, I did pick up a couple which were just too appealing.

From the library:

Book Cover: Indulgence in Death by J D Robb There are some books that are just like chocolate bars—so good and a luxurious pleasure. That's the In Death series by Nora Roberts writing as J. D. Robb. The main character, Eve Dallas, is married to the richest man in the world, yet she continues to go to work every day in the homicide division of the New York police department. She just NEEDS to go after the bad guys and make sure that they pay for the murders that they do. Indulgence in Death is the thirty-first book in the series which goes out to 40 so far with #41 due in September and #42 scheduled for February next year. I plan to read as many of these books as I can get my hands on.

Book Cover: Mexican Whiteboy by Matt de la Peña When I went searching for a book to satisfy the category "Diversity" in this year's Eclectic Reader Challenge, I saw a lot of books that appealed to me. Mexican Whiteboy won out, however, when I read the description of a teen who is half Mexican and half Anglo, living in San Diego. He doesn't feel like he fits in with either side of his heritage. He does, however, have an amazingly fast pitch in baseball. If only he had control to match. Can mastering baseball be the key to sorting out who he is and finding a place to fit in?

For Review:

Book Cover: The Oncoming Storm by Christopher Nuttall When I read the description of The Oncoming Storm, I thought “shades of Kris Longknife”. It's military SF with a rich and aristocratic young office promoted because of her family connections. It may wind up to be a LOT like the Kris Longknife novels I've been reading, but since I'm having to wait for the next one of those to be published, why not check this one out? If it turns out to be really good, I'll have more to look forward to as it's the first of a brand new series.

Book Cover: Fated by Sarah Fine Earlier this year, I read (and reviewed) the first two books in Sarah Fine's Servants of Fate series. Now, the third book is available from NetGalley, and I asked to read Fated. I know ahead of time that it's going to contain more explicit scenes than I am comfortable with, but the story in both of the previous books was very well plotted and written. I really want to know what happens next. Sometimes, though, I wish there was a way to get the “milder” version of some books.

Book Cover: The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra by Vaseem Khan Don't you just love that cover? It certainly drew me in. Right away you know the story is set in India and there's an elephant. The description tells of a policeman retiring from the force, becoming a private investigator, and inheriting a baby elephant. That explains why it's on the cover. I'm not sure exactly how this is going to play into the story, but it's definitely intriguing.

How about you? Any new books? You're invited to tell us all about it by joining the fun at Stacking the Shelves. According to the reviewers at Tynga's Reviews who host the meme:

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

  2. NetGalley is very hard to resist. I'm forcing myself to stay away unless I'm submitting feedback. At least until I catch up on my reviews. I hope you enjoy your new books this week.

    1. I was very happy with my 94% feedback ratio, but then I saw some more books I really wanted. So I'm down to 86% until I read (and review) them. Fortunately I grabbed a couple of books that I really want to read, so I shouldn't have too much trouble with it.

    1. Yeah -- a decent haul this week. I hadn't intended to pick up so many books for review, but was just tempted too badly.

    1. I've been a big fan of the Honor Harrington series of military SF as well as the Kris Longknife series, so I hope to enjoy The Oncoming Storm. Thanks from dropping by.
