Stacking the Shelves (58)

After the long list of new books I posted this week, I don't have quite as many to talk about. I did receive a new review book courtesy of the Library Early Reviewers program. And I took a couple of more Mid-grade and Young Adult books from the library hoping that I could read them fairly fast and hit my goal of 200 books for 2015.

From the library:

Book Cover: The Burning Questions of Bingo Brown by Betsy Byars Betsy Byars is the author of many books for kids. The Burning Questions of Bingo Brown is the first in a series featuring an average sixth grader (named Bingo Brown, duh) who is asking many of the questions that young teens consider, including "How do I avoid the school bully?" Written in the late 1980s, the questions are still pertinent today.

Book Cover: Cards of Grief by Jane Yolen One of my favorite authors of YA fiction is Jane Yolen. Cards of Grief is her award-winning story about an alien civilization and its encounter with human anthropologists who land on their planet and proceed to observe the native population. But some of the scientists do more than observe—they get involved and the culture is changed forever.

Book Cover: Gold Dust by Chris Lynch To complete the Eclectic Book Challenge which I entered into this year, I need to read a “sports book”. So I selected Gold Dust by Chris Lynch. Seventh grader Richard has hopes of turning himself and the new kid in school into the best baseball players since the Red Sox rookies from 1975 known as the Gold Dust Twins.

For review:

Book Cover: Milky Way Repo by Michael Prelee Yep. In the future we can anticipate repossession of star ships just like the cars and trucks of today. I was given a copy of Michael Prelee's debut novel, Milky Way Repo through the LibraryThing Early Readers program. The blurb describes it as “blue collar sci-fi”—sounds pretty good to me. Watch for a review in the next couple of weeks.

How about you? Any new books? You're invited to tell us all about it by joining the fun at Stacking the Shelves. According to the reviewers at Tynga's Reviews who host the meme:

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

  1. All your books are new to me. I haven't heard of any of them. I hope you love all of them.

    1. Yeah -- though the library books are actually republication of older books for mid-grade and young adults. Two from the 1980s and the Chris Lynch from 2000. I've already completed one of them and am fast nearing the end of the second.

  2. These titles are all new to me, but Gold Dust sounds like something some of my sporty students would enjoy. Happy reading!

    1. Natalie - Chris Lynch's books seem to be very popular with young teens. I first stumbled across him a while ago with another of his sports-themed books. You might read one of his to see if it seems like something you'd recommend.

    1. Yes, indeedy. It was the cross-section of futuristic SF and the "working man" that caught my attention. I was pleased to be elected to receive an advance copy and now I just need to read it and review.
