Stacking the Shelves (38)

I Love free books. I'm highlighting the free audio books provided by SYNC throughout the summer. And now, I'm participating in the Summer 2015 COYER challenge and scavenger hunt. COYER (Clear Out Your E-Readers) is all about actually reading those free books that we all tend to accumulate. And, all the new books at my house this week are freebies.

For review:

I was totally surprised and so happy to receive an e-mail from Penguin Group letting me know that I had been selected to receive an ARC of X, the twenty-fourth book in Sue Grafton's Alphabet Mysteries through their First to Read program. I'm simply thrilled!

Book Cover: X by Sue Grafton The publisher says, “ Sue Grafton’s X: Perhaps her darkest and most chilling novel, it features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no trace of his crimes. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. The test is whether Kinsey can prove her case against him before she becomes his next victim.”

Freebies:

Book Cover: Monster by Walter Dean Myers The lead book this week from SYNC is Monster by Walter Dean Myers. Steve Harmon is a high-schooler, an aspiring filmmaker, and on trial for his role in the murder of a convenience store clerk. He tells the story of his trial in the format of a movie script, interspersing accounts of his life before the murder. The recording is performed as a full-cast dramatization, further emphasizing the scripted approach to telling the story.

Book Cover: Lord of the Flies by William Golding Ever a classic, Willima Golding's Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of schoolboys whose plane crashes, leaving them abandoned on a deserted island with no adults. It doesn't take long before they become disordered and anarchy breaks out. Taught in many high-school English classes, it is seen to be an allegory of human nature. This recording was made in 1976, read by the author.

How about you? Any new books? You're invited to tell us all about it by joining the fun at Stacking the Shelves. According to the reviewers at Tynga's Reviews who host the meme:

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

  1. I am so jealous about "X". I entered for a copy but did not get it. I never do and the reserve copies were gone. Well...happy reading!

    1. Can you believe there's only 2 more? I was just surprised that it has no "is for ..." after "X". It's not too late to pick up the free audio. Download from SYNC between now and next Wednesday.

      Thanks for leaving a comment.

    1. Sofia, that's one thing that makes Stacking the Shelves so much fun -- discovering books that other people have received. I'm looking forward to enjoying these books.
