Another Tuesday, another Teaser. Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. This week, I'd like to share a teaser from Full Dark House by Christopher Fowler.
Although he had barely met her, it was the idea of bad luck befalling someone in the theatre that disturbed him. Acts of betrayal and revenge unfolded nightly beneath the proscenium arch, but something like this, with police and doctors spiriting away a covered body, felt like an ill omen.
Full Dark House is the first of a series of mystery novels detailing the cases solved by the Peculiar Crimes Unit in London. Since I'm less than half-way through the book, I still haven't figured out what spin is going to be placed on “Peculiar”. In one sense, PCU takes on cases which may be too difficult or intense or complicated for the regular police—sort of a British version of “Special Victims Unit”. But there are hints of the paranormal floating around, so maybe “Peculiar” has an entirely different meaning. I'm sure that all will be revealed by the end of the book, and then I have at least seven more cases to review and the ninth volume in the series will be released in September.
